Powis House Estate is a historic Georgian estate near Stirling in central Scotland offering luxury self-catered cottages, boutique shepherd huts and a small number of curated retreats throughout the year.

Where is Powis House Estate located?
Powis House Estate is located just outside Stirling in central Scotland, beneath the Ochil Hills and within easy reach of Edinburgh, Glasgow, The Trossachs and the Scottish Highlands. 

What makes Powis House Estate unique?
Powis House combines historic architecture, peaceful countryside and boutique accommodation on a private estate, creating a calm setting for holidays, gatherings and retreats, whilst also being within 10 minutes of Stirling, direct train routes to London and 30 mins from Edinburgh Airport.

Accommodation at Powis House Estate

What types of accommodation are available at Powis House Estate?
Guests can stay in two restored cottages within the historic estate or in one of two boutique shepherd huts set within the grounds, each designed to offer privacy, comfort and connection to nature.

Are the cottages suitable for families or groups?
Yes. The cottages are ideal for families and small groups of friends (6 per cottage) and can also be booked together to accommodate larger gatherings (12 guests in total). East Cottage even has an outdoor, electric hot tub suitable for up to 8. 

Do the shepherd huts have private outdoor baths?
Yes. Each shepherd hut has its own private outdoor bath plumbed into the mains, allowing guests to enjoy a relaxing soak while surrounded by the natural beauty of the estate.

Is Powis House Estate self-catering accommodation?
Yes. All accommodation is self-catered, allowing guests to enjoy the flexibility of preparing their own meals while staying in a historic estate setting. We provide basics such as tea, coffee, sugar, salt, pepper and oils. Each accommodation also has an espresso machine with pods provided. 

Are the shepherd huts suitable for couples?
Yes. The shepherd huts are designed as peaceful countryside escapes for couples and include private outdoor baths overlooking the estate grounds. Alternatively they would also make a great base for solo travellers. 

What sort of facilities do the shepherd huts have?
Each hut has running water, electricity and high speed wifi. Both have hot showers, a shower room sink and plumbed toilet as well as a kitchen sink. The kitchen includes a two ring electric hob, toaster, kettle, coffee machine and fridge freezer

What is there to do near Powis House Estate?
The estate is ideally located for exploring Stirling Castle, the Wallace Monument, Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, as well as walking, hiking, fishing, cycling and golf throughout central Scotland.

How far is Powis House Estate from Edinburgh and Glasgow?
The estate is approximately 45 minutes from Edinburgh and around 35 minutes from Glasgow by car.

Is Powis House Estate a good base for exploring Scotland?
Yes. Its central location makes it an excellent base for exploring both the Scottish Highlands and Lowlands, as well as historic cities such as Edinburgh and Glasgow. Many guests stay for their entire Scottish trip, driving as far north as Inverness. 

Is Powis House Estate close to Stirling Castle?
Powis House Estate is located just minutes from Stirling Castle, making it an ideal base for exploring the city while enjoying a peaceful countryside setting beneath the Ochil Hills.

Booking & Practical Information

When is the best time to visit Powis House Estate?
The estate is beautiful throughout the year. Spring and summer offer long days and vibrant gardens, while autumn and winter provide a cosy atmosphere perfect for fires, outdoor baths and peaceful countryside walks.

Is Powis House Estate open year-round?
Yes. The estate welcomes guests throughout the year for both accommodation stays and selected retreats.

Is the accommodation suitable for people with mobility issues?
All of the accommodation includes stairs. East Cottage is not suitable for people with mobility issues due to its steep stairs. Mid cottage is suitable for those that can climb stairs as they are broad and hand railed. Mid Cottage also has a downstairs bedroom.
