About Powis House Estate
Powis House Estate is a historic Georgian estate near Stirling offering luxury self-catered accommodation and boutique retreats in central Scotland.
At the foot of the Ochil Hills, just minutes from Stirling, lies a quiet pocket of Scottish countryside that holds centuries of stories — and the start of our own.

Powis House Estate is a historic Georgian estate offering self-catered cottages, shepherd huts and a small number of carefully curated retreats each year.

Over the past few years we have been slowly restoring this 10-acre estate with a simple goal: to create a place where people can rest, reconnect, and experience something quietly special in the Scottish countryside.
The Estate
The Powis Estate dates back to the 1400s, with the house as it stands today built in 1746. Through the centuries it has been home to noble families, witnessed Scotland’s long story of nationhood, and even provided sanctuary for soldiers during the Second World War.

Today the estate remains a lived-in and carefully maintained place. Rather than becoming a museum, Powis House continues its story as a welcoming countryside retreat where guests can enjoy history, landscape and calm.

Set across ten acres of gardens, woodland and open land beneath the Ochil Hills, it offers both privacy and easy access to the historic city of Stirling and central Scotland.

Jennifer & James
We’re James and Jennifer — the husband and wife team behind Powis House Estate.

After careers in the Arts and Technology in London, we moved to Scotland to start a family and take on the challenge of restoring this remarkable place.
Since then, we’ve poured our time and energy into bringing the estate gently into the 21st century while preserving its character and history.

We still do much of the work ourselves — from maintaining the grounds and renovating buildings to welcoming guests on arrival.

Powis House isn’t a faceless hospitality business. It’s our home and a project we care deeply about sharing.
Our Philospohy
Our goal is to ensure Powis House Estate remains here for another 300 years.

We are working towards making the estate financially and environmentally sustainable by 2026 so that it can continue to be cared for and passed on to the next generation.

Our approach focuses on four priorities:
• restoring and maintaining the historic listed buildings
• creating sustainable income from the estate’s land and buildings
• moving toward energy and water self-sufficiency
• hosting experiences that guests and the local community can enjoy

We believe that places like Powis thrive when they are lived in, cared for and shared.

Staying at Powis
Guests stay in our restored three-bedroom cottages and boutique shepherd huts, each designed to reflect the character of the estate while offering modern comfort.

Open fires, garden views and peaceful surroundings make Powis a calm base for exploring Stirling and central Scotland.

Since opening our doors we have welcomed more than 300 families and groups of friends, many of whom have shared wonderful reviews that mean a great deal to us.

Over the coming years we will continue to add a small number of unique accommodation spaces, each designed to complement the beauty of the land and historic setting.
Retreats at Powis
Alongside welcoming holiday guests, Powis House hosts a small number of retreats each year.

These are led by experienced teachers in yoga, fitness, creativity, writing and wellness, offering something deeper than a typical weekend away.

With space for around 12 guests, retreats remain intimate and personal.

Our role is to provide a unique space — caring for the land, the atmosphere and the logistics — so teachers can focus entirely on creating meaningful experiences for their guests.

Looking forward
Powis House Estate is still evolving.

We continue to restore buildings, expand accommodation and carefully develop retreats that feel aligned with the landscape and history of the estate.

Whether you are visiting for a peaceful stay, gathering friends and family, or joining a retreat, our hope is that Powis feels welcoming, calm and just a little magical.

Warmly,
Jennifer & James
